Today’s post from the series found in Psalm 119 Day to Day on the menu section.
Psalm 119:89-96
Forever, O Lord,
Your word is settled in heaven.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
You established the earth, and it abides.
They continue this day according to Your ordinances,
For all are Your servants.
Unless Your law had been my delight,
I would then have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget Your precepts,
For by them You have given me life.
I am Yours, save me;
For I have sought Your precepts.
The wicked wait for me to destroy me,
But I will consider Your testimonies.
I have seen the consummation of all perfection,
But Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
The Law of Christ contains all glory and power of God. This is what we have in the New Covenant. The Psalmist did not have this. Yet, he sought the Lord in everything he did and knew through God’s commands, laws, and precepts. The New Testament is filled with the law of Christ. I encourage us to explore this further. We should seek an understanding of what the Lord and the Law of Christ consist of. We should also ask the Lord to grant us wisdom. By doing so, we may receive this into our hearts in all its wonder. We can begin to walk in His law more faithfully today. The Law of Christ is found in Romans 8. Another instance is when Jesus spoke to the seven churches to John in Rev 2 & 3. Yet another can be found in Ephes 1. These are not mere facts about the Lord. They are our reality. God has made a way for us to join in Christ. His law contains instruction and direction. It reveals who He is. It shows who we are in Him and what He wants to impart to us. The Word of God is living, and He lives in us! Let us get this so we may walk in the law of Christ – today!
This passage, Ps 119:89-96, can be read this way, in new covenant language, and even as a prayer we would pray:
Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides. They continue this day according to Your ordinances, For all are Your servants. Unless the law of Christ had been our delight, We would then have perished in our affliction. We will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given us life. We are Yours, rescue us, For we seek Your precepts. The wicked wait for us to destroy us, But we will consider Your testimonies. The perfection of men has its limit but in the law of Christ there is no limit now nor in all eternity!
