Jack Hibbs and His Troubling Message

The door has been opened. Jesus Christ if the door. Whoever goes through the door enters the narrow way which is the only path to the Father. John 14:6.

We often interpret spiritual truths through our own eyes and understanding. We bring down what is spiritual to the earth making it a sensual – truth, that is we filter the truths of God through our senses and carnal minds. The path of the Lord is not linear. It is not like a physical path like one on Earth. The path is what the Lord has described as ‘remaining’ in Him. John 15. If we do not remain (abide) in Him and His Word and the Will of God, we no longer are walking on the narrow way – following Jesus. Matt 7:13-14. Those who adhere to once saved always saved (osas) have brought spiritual truth down to become earthly which is how they argue this falsehood. Salvation is not something we lose or gain it is rather WHO we are joined to. If we are joined to Christ in truth, He is our Salvation. If we do not remain in Him, we cannot hope to also obtain Salvation apart from Him. We cannot walk in darkness, the way of this world, or in the lusts of our flesh – and expect to also remain in Christ yet, this is how the once saved always saved doctrine is propagated.

I recently listened to Jack Hibbs (link) telling his thousands of listeners if you backslide (living in sin) you will still go on to eternal life. What he said in this 15 minute video troubled me. He is ambiguous in treating this subject. On one hand he says once we are born again we cannot be un born again. Then, he says that if we are able to sin – without conviction, we are likely not born again. This is the argument osas uses to defend when Christians are okay with living in sin; that they are likely not Christians at all. He also said that the Church of Christ is not Holy but a bunch of sinners saved by the grace of God. Wow. We WERE sinners; It was our old man and old nature that enjoyed sinning and what we did – naturally. But now we are His new Creations. Nowhere does the Bible refer to Christ’s Body, His Church – as sinners but in fact are the Lord’s temple in which He dwells! 1 Cor 6:19-20.

For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love – Eph 1:4

But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy, unblemished, and blameless in His presence- Col 1:22

This teaching (osas) contradicts the very person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His work on the cross and His resurrected life. If this is the case, there is no need for the cross. Yet, how many eat up this false doctrine like it is the Word of God? I personally believe those who follow this lie are not willing to look at sin as God sees it. Sin is deceitful and will spring up in us as lies such as osas if we are unwilling to see the truth of the Word.

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end – Heb 13:12-14W

We have been given free will pre Christ and new birth in Christ does not take away this free will. We can and many do, choose to practice sin indulging in lusts. Daily, we choose life in Christ, or we choose to fulfill the lusts of our flesh. Romans 8. The longer we indulge in our lusts to continue in sin, the more dangerous we live as we grow dull to the things of the Spirit.

It is a dangerous place to be to have a dulled conscience – yet, we have preachers and teachers telling us that all is well, continue on – backsliding for you will never lose your salvation! Again, Salvation is not something we lose. Salvation is a person and He is our reality in which we live.

  1. Amen to that! Osas is a very dangerous and deceptive doctrine that causes many to ‘sit on their lees’, only to find out one day they have lost their crown of salvation.
